Walshs Glass
CEO of SMEA Dean Logan was recently engaged by Walshs Glass to implement a business transformation strategy. Walshs Glass is the largest flat glass processor and distributor of glass in WA and currently implementing a $7.5M capital upgrade with the world leading Austrian firm, LiSEC. Working with an amazing team and directed by a very talented and enthusiastic Executive Director, Dean will support the business throughout 2023.
Manjimup Home & Community Care
We were recently engaged to scope a large piece of work that would set the strategic direction of Manjimup Home & Community Care; post the Aged Care Royal Commission. Led by CEO Liz Lockyear the business is in really good shape, but Liz wanted to preempt a raft of complex policy reforms and the potential need to restructure to cater for this new environment.
FREMANTLE SAILING CLUB
CEO of SMEA Dean Logan was engaged as the Interim General Manager of the Fremantle Sailing Club to support the organisation through a very difficult period. Over ten months we implemented a change management plan and steered the largest sailing club in the southern hemisphere out of a very serious storm. We then handed the club over to a new CEO.
Community AGED Care
Spanning a total of nine months we were hired to take over one of the most exceptional community home care companies across the SW of WA with 3,000 clients, six regional offices, 150+ staff and 357 volunteers. NATURALISTE SKIN CLINIC (NSC)
SMEA was thrilled to have Naturaliste Skin Clinic (NSC) as a client. NSC is one of the most respected players in their field throughout Western Australia. Established 12 years ago NSC has stand alone clinics in Bunbury and Busselton and a vast array of visiting clinics across the State. We were engaged to assess the business and provide a raft of recommendations for growth and potential sale.
National Zoo and Aquarium
In late 2018 we were engaged to implement a change management model for the National Zoo & Aquarium and it’s 5-start Jamala Wildlife Lodge. The zoo is the largest privately owned zoo in Australia. Our brief was to stabilise the business: primarily to enable the owner to retire from all operational elements.
Claremont Yacht Club
SMEA CEO Dean Logan was engaged by the Claremont Yacht Club Board to partially restructure operational aspects of the club with specific attention given to food, beverage / bars and events. We developed some great preliminary partnerships with the likes of Bethesda Hospital. Methodist Ladies College, Presbyterian Ladies College etc. Key to this was a restructure of food and beverage: new wine lists and food menus, friday family pizza nights, saturday morning stand-up paddle boarding club and working with CUB with regard to on-tap wines and pop-up cocktail bars.
School Support Limited - New Zealand
From 2016 through to mid-2018 we developed and implemented a change management program for the well respected NZ based company, School Support Limited (SSL). SSL was a complex entity and yet had lost it’s way after 27 years of operation. With six powerful divisions, SSL was considered an industry success story. We successfully restructured divisions like architectural design, accounting and project management, whilst establishing a culture employees wanted to be apart of. Australian Marine Alliance
For a period of four years and with the support of global manufacturers we established the Australian Marine Alliance (AMA). The AMA was considered the largest cross-sector platform in Australian bringing together global manufacturers, recreational angling, commercial fishing sectors including the Sydney Fish Markets, light marine, manufacturing and aqua culture sectors for the first time in Australian history. Youth Diversionary Program
Change management and policy go hand in hand. We were thrilled to partner with First Nations Education and one of Australia’s best drug, alcohol and addiction specialists John Close, to design a Youth Diversionary Program. The program was based on a clinical case management model and was presented to Shires and the WA State Government Task Force who were desperately looking for policy reform in this space. Marine / Fisheries / Oceans Policy
We’ve specialised in marine / oceans and fisheries policy for nearly 16 years. Most notably we were instrumental in securing major reforms to the largest wholesale change to Australia’s commonwealth marine environment since federation - the Marine Bio-Regional Planning Process. The key here was to ensure marine policy was driven by science not emotion. Renewable Energy - Solar
We have worked with medium sized solar PV firms who specialise in the commercial solar space on a national roll-out strategy. We’ve been developing strategic plans, investor proposals, capability statements and peer reviewing license agreements whilst addressing possible buy-out opportunities. EMAIL US TO FIND OUT MORE.
Indigenous / First Nations
We’ve raised $9.5M for Indigenous related issues and organisations in Australia. We are proud to have a successful Indigenous portfolio and have just been in engaged by a Queensland Indigenous organisation to help them take an amazing new program national. EMAIL US TO FIND OUT MORE.
Global Manufacturing and Market Access
We represented the commercial policy interests of every international manufacturer of outboard engines in the world for nearly six years. This meant supporting over 420 national dealers - all of whom are SMEs and who reside mostly on the coast or in regional areas. EMAIL US TO FIND OUT MORE.
Emission Regulations and International Manufacturing
We worked closely with European and Asian based manufacturers to design and implement an emissions framework in Australia for all spark driven engines compliant with USA EPA 2012 regulations. A key element of our role was to secure Federal Ministerial exemptions for two-stroke technology across three categories which we did - military use, Surf Life saving Australia and remote / Indigenous use. Agriculture
We were thrilled to be engaged to set the operational and strategic focus of a very innovative WA wheat belt farming operation in 2022. The task was to restructure operational elements of the business to compliment a carbon neutral strategy by 2030. EMAIL US TO FIND OUT MORE.
Renewable Energy - Wind
We’ve recently provided a leading USA renewable energy company - specialising in wind - with a high level regulatory policy briefing on the Australian market. The Outdoors: Risk Management Plans and Manufacturing
We were engaged by Grassroots Enduro - Australia Series, to prepare risk management plans, templates, communication protocols, risk registry and risk identification models for a key national event. In essence, to ensure organisers focus on the event, SMEA took the lead and worked very closely with government agencies like the Victorian Country Fire Association (CFA), Transport VIC (traffic management plans), Police etc to ensure agencies were happy and approval to run the event was given. Assessing risk in this instance wasn’t a burden, but rather a partnership between business and government to ensure events were safe, family friendly and enjoyable. EMAIL US TO FIND OUT MORE.
Summary
The Indigenous Evaluation Strategy is a whole of government initiative to better coordinate and understand how policy is developed and how well that policy delivers key objectives to Indigenous Australians.
There are a raft of Guiding Principles that help government departments, NGOs and private sector service providers better understand and deliver programs. One of our existing clients is Fuel Right Australia - developed over the past two decades, Fuel Right Chemistry is unique and uses a powerful combination of amines to slowly dissolve existing sludge, while preventing growth and build-up of new sludge, protecting tanks and fuel system components from corrosion, even in the presence of free water, improves lubricity thus extending the service life of injection pumps and other high wear fuel components. Our role at SMEA is to develop a regional dealership model for a successful roll-out of regional SME dealerships.
We were working with UASci on a second round investment proposal to increase the specifications of their current aircraft Kestrel. We were also working with private and government sectors on trials of UAV technology across a range of fields.
